PDF Participates in the Implementation of the New Presidential Initiative “Hayat Karima”

The Professional Development Foundation (PDF) signed a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Social Solidarity to participate in the implementation of a presidential initiative called Hayat Karima (A Decent Life).

The Minister of Social Solidarity, Ghada Waly said that this initiative launched by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to provide a decent life for the underprivileged, is a model of cooperation between civil society organizations represented by NGOs, the Egyptian government represented by the Ministry of Social Solidarity, as well as other participating institutions.  

In addition, Wali stressed that the initiative of Hayat Karima will be implemented in a total of 277 villages in 15 different governorates, mostly in Upper Egypt including: Giza, Bani Suef, Al Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, the Red Sea, the New Valley, Aswan, Al Qalyubia, Al Beheira, Marsa Matrouh, South Sinai, and North Sinai in the first phase. The initiative will then be targeted at other villages in the second phase according to indicators and levels of poverty.

Hayat Karima is designed to financially, medically, and logistically support the neediest through rehabilitation and raising the efficiency of houses, medical operations, provision of medicines, food baskets, environmental interventions, establishment of nurseries, as well as training and employment opportunities through micro enterprises.  

Wali pointed out that today’s protocols are only the beginning and that the next period will include signing with a new group of associations. However, working on ground will start immediately to provide a decent life, she added.  

The signing of the protocol took place in a ceremony attended by 19 associations and NGOs such as Life Makers Association, Al Orman Association, Egyptian Food Bank, Decent Life Bank, Al Shareyah Association, Egyptian Cure Bank, The Professional Development Foundation, The Arab Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services, Shepherd of Egypt Foundation, Misr Foundation, Mosque of Dr. Mostafa Mahmoud Foundation, Children of Female Prisoners Association, Misr El Kheir Foundation, Baseera Foundation for the Visually Impaired, and El Ber Wel Taqwa Charitable Association.
